I started making these cookies about 15 years ago. I cannot remember where I got the recipe from. BUT we LOVE them! Especially my son Max, who is now 19. He’s been away from home for almost 2 years straight. At Christmas time I asked him what cookies he wanted shipped to him. His answer were these cookies and Raspberry Jam filled cookies.

If you are a fan of the Orange and Chocolate combo then these cookies are FOR YOU! We love them for Christmas, but they are also perfect in the summertime. These cookies are always doubled or tripled at our house. They freeze really well.

Older children can be a great help in making these cookies. They are able to crack an egg, measure ingredients and LOVE to zest an orange.

I prefer to use my stand mixer for cookies. Cream together the butter and shortening. Then the sugar. Next, blend in the eggs and vanilla. That separation of ingredients between blending didn’t happen this time because the kids were in charge.

Mix in the dry ingredients, then the orange zest, then the chocolate chips. We love semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips in these cookies.

I use a 1-inch scoop to spoon up the dough onto prepared baking sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for 9-10 minutes.

Perfect for a summer picnic.

Orange Chocolate Chip Cookies

Classic Chocolate Chip cookies with a twist. These cookies have a orange shortbread base with chocolate chips added for more heaven. If you love the orange-chocolate combo then these cookies are for you! I prefer darker chocolate chips with these cookies. I always double this recipe. These cookies freeze great!
