Classic Chocolate Chip cookies with a twist. These cookies have a orange shortbread base with chocolate chips added for more heaven. If you love the orange-chocolate combo then these cookies are for you! I prefer darker chocolate chips with these cookies. I always double this recipe. These cookies freeze great!

Cuisine American
- ½ cup butter, at room temp
- ¾ cup shortening could replace with butter, but it will change the texture
- 1⅓ cup white sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 egg
- 3 cups all purpose flour
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 Tbsp baking powder
- 2 Tbsp orange zest
- 1 cup chocolate chips, semi-sweet or dark are preferred
Preheat oven to 350°. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or use a silpat. If neither are available, lightly spray a baking sheet with oil.
In the bowl of a stand mixer, or in a medium sized bowl to use with a hand mixer, cream the butter and shortening. If using a stand mixer use the paddle attchment. Gradually add the sugar and whip it for about 2 minutes.
Add in the vanilla and egg. Cream together for another minute.
Add in the dry ingredients. Flour, baking powder and salt. Mix that in. Now add the orange zest in and mix in till all is blended well.
Next, fold in the chocolate chips.
Drop the dough by the spoonful, I use a 1-inch scoop, onto the prepared baking sheet. Space the dough balls about 3-4 inches apart. Bake at 350° for 9-10 minutes. Allow to cool on a cooling rack.
