Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in March by watching our favorite Irish Movies. And, by the way, these are GREAT MOVIES any time.

Take your pick… better yet, watch them all! In no particular order here we go!

1. WAKING NED DEVINE

This is one of my ALL TIME FAVORITES! Commit to it and see it through to the end. The pay-off is WORTH IT! Truly one of the most DELIGHTFUL movies EVER!  If you are like me you will want to turn on the captions because the accents are pretty thick, in fact that may apply to all of these movies. A great family movie we all love to quote.

2. SING STREET

Corinne told her kids she was taking them to see Sing Street…..she gave them a brief summary; a musical coming of age story about an Irish teen in the 90’s who starts a band. Her daughter Lily said, “You had me at 90’s Irish Garage Band!” Same Lily, same. Sing Street is a heartwarming, uplifting story.

3. THE SECRET OF ROAN INISH

I watched this movie with my kids when they were small, and it has been a favorite ever since. It is magical and beautiful and wraps you up in the legends and stories of Ireland.

4.  BROOKLYN

I

Ok. This film is a MUST. It’s the story of Irish Immigration, something many of our ancestors participated in. Not only do we get to see Ireland in the 1952, but also Brooklyn. The clothes, the music, the scenery and storyline are fantastic. Corinne loved the book as well. However, this is one of the rare times she would say that the movie might be better. While the movie is missing great scenes and details that are present in the book, the ending in the movie is WAY better. It’s a great adaptation.

5. WILD MOUNTAIN THYME

Wild Mountain Thyme. It’s such a quirky, warm Irish Romance, filled with delightful dialogue and colorful characters. Corinne had her whole family watch it for movie night. Her youngest, age 9, even loved it, and quotes it all the time.

6. THE QUIET MAN

AND HERE IT IS. The pièce de résistance. THIS MOVIE has been a family favorite as long as we have been a family. Quotes from this movie and its quintessential Irish characters have become part of our regular family dialogue. YOU MUST WATCH THIS

Make some stew and soda bread, sit by the fire and WATCH THIS as a family. It will make your life BETTER.

DID I MISS SOME? Let me know….I will be happy to add to the list. Top O’ The Mornin’ To Ya!
